My history about learning English

Hello guy!

My name is Mary, I'm a student at UFMT in Rondonópolis/Brasil. I have lived here sinse 2007, but I originally came from Rio Grande do Sul. My blog aims at exchanging my experiences with other students and learning with them .

I have never had a formal instructions in English before I entered at college.
I studied English at High school only but it was a public school and there was no available English teacher at that time.
After 13 years, when I decided to try"vestibular", I chose Spanish because English for me was extremely hard. But, I passed into the vestibular and I started studying in 2008, and I didn't imagine that the course was English only.
At the first year was the mostt difficulty, but I decided to keep on my goals and I continue my studies at colleges and now I am enjoying my course.
At the second year I started a private language course "ALL" (local English Course) and I have been studying there until now.
I consider my learning at ALL is getting better, because my teacher is patient and she speaks English carefully. At ALL, I have been learning a lot and now, I have been improving and pronunciation as well.
My negative experience was at the second year, when my professor gave me a big homework. Firstly, I think that I could never make it, but I could. So, I worked a lot, I reserched through internet and also book and I got all exercises. This experience was negative but also positive because everything is getting easily and I realized what autonomy means in learning process.
My best experience this year is to meet teacher Mark, she is American and I love her because she is calm and she is very understandable person. I also discovered that I don't need to pronounce and write perfectly. I'm not American this is my lesson.
If you ask me how I study, I tell that I only like to listen to music, I don´t have patience to see film in English and I hate to study grammar. But I love writing and reading.
I'm quite convinced that study English is very important to my future.

  7. Movie review:

“GUESS WHO’S COMING TO DINNER” by Mary
“GUESS WHO’S COMING TO DINNER” is an award winning American comedy film from 1967 directed by Stanley Kramer and brings Spencer Tracy, Sidney Poitier and Katharine Hepburn in the cast, with duration of 103 minutes.
‘Guess who’s coming to dinner’ is a great and unforgettable film. The drama takes place over one day when two families, one white and one black, are surprised at the unexpected information that their children decided to marry. In a short time, the two families have to overcome problems of racial prejudice, especially by fathers. Mothers, in contrast, support the decision of their children. In this movie, we can observe the pride by the black maid of the bride's family when she tries to persuade the young black doctor to leave his wedding plans.
I’d just like to say that this movie isn’t a comedy, it looks like a drama because it discusses prejudice. However, the movie isn’t about prejudice, but the fear of it by society. This film was produced in 1967, and at that time it was a mark for questions of miscegenation, mainly in marriage.
This movie shows a renowned doctor, young and polite, but black that requests to marry with a white girl that belongs to an aristocratic family. I think that putting a black boyfriend in the film, who wants to marry a rich girl, and parental opposition to the marriage with their daughter, proves racial prejudice. However, this movie could be more provocative if it showed the black young as a waiter or any profession that was not prestiged.
Generally speaking, the parents of the two young classified people by their color, but Jonh and Joey didn't. Their parents are afraid of the prejudice present in the society against his children. I’m quite convinced that Joey and Jonh are a beautiful couple, they are in love and they can overcome the prejudice together. But they need to know how to overcome the problem.
Personally, the director of this movie, Stanley Kramer, had the fantastic idea about a magistral study of social prejudice. This is an excellent work, with a perfect screenplay, intelligent dialogues and the beautiful sound track by Frank De Vol and a great cast.
